Gifts and Donations

You may not know that Commonwealth Parenting is unlike many non-profits in central Virginia: we have clients who pay for our services and clients who receive free services!  In fact, 33% of our budget comes from paying clients, 33% from grants, and about 33% from generous people just like you.

In the past 27 years we have offered parenting classes and counseling – reaching out to those who could afford our services, and to those who could not. Not all of our clients have the same resources, but all of them want to be better parents.

We recognize that knowledge greatly affects the ability to parent.  Offering parents knowledge of child development and how to overcome challenges has been our number one objective.  I am happy to report we have been very successful and, therefore, demand for our free services has never been greater!  In fact, we have been so successful that our clients who are able to pay cannot begin to support our outreach requests.  Not only are we receiving calls from individuals who are unable to pay the $25 for a class or $75 for a private counseling session, but we also are receiving requests from other non-profits seeking parenting educators for their clients.

Of the 6,300 families we served last year, our 11 Family Educators served nearly 2,000 families free-of-charge.  To use a river analogy, we at Commonwealth Parenting consider ourselves the non-profit that is upstream, near the source of the river, engaging families before they hit the tumultuous rapids.  If we can reach parents before abuse occurs, before drug and alcohol problems affect children, and before an unhappy family causes a divorce, then we have truly accomplished a great deal.

Your annual fund gift will allow us to reach more families than ever before. I cannot begin to tell you how hard it is when someone seeks help and has to be turned away.  Won’t you join us, and be a part of our success?
